Øystein Kvinge trio featuring Hans Martin Austestad

On September 30th, we performed two sets at the local jazz club Swing ‘n’ sweet. This was the second time this particular line up worked together. Our first meeting with singer Hans Martin Austestad was at the seson opening at Jazzgalleriet in January 23. Hans Martin put together a varied set based on the Chet Baker songbook. He is an expert interpreter of Baker’s style and has invested a lot of time in transcribing solos and studying in depth Baker’s interpretations of standard jazz tunes. This made for an excellent gig that was repeated in October.

Hans Martin also plays the banjo wery well. We closed each set with his arrangements of Bye, bye blackbird and In walked Bud for jazz trio and banjo. Both performances were captured on video by Egil Andersen. The backing band consist of me, Peter Sæverud (bass) and Jan Tore Ness (drums).
